TURANT is proud to be part of
this educational project for American educator.
Turkish Cultural Foundation (TCF) and TURANT
sponsored Teacher’s Workshop about Turkey that took place
on April 25, 2009, at the Region 10
Education Service Center in Richardson, Texas.
We all proud to see that our Turkish American
Kids started to take a role to promote their homeland.
TURANT Childrens Folk dance group performed at the
World Affairs Council's Teachers Work Shop and
received big cheers from audience. We
served Turkish Tea to the participants all through day. Thank you to
Sevgi Sevenler, Birsen Uytun and Guzin Akbeniz for

The agenda included an introduction of Turkey
and travel memoires by four Teacher Fellows who were in the
2008 Turkey program, a presentation about
the daily life and culture of Turkey by Dr. Manoucher
Khosrowshahi
(Director,Travel Study Projects in Turkey,Tyler Junior CollegeTyler,
Texas), Foreign Issues and Turkey
by Dr.
Hasan Pirkul,
(School of Management, Dean
University of Texas at Dallas),
speech by Saduman Gurbuz
(President of
TURANT) on Importance of April 23rd, Childrens Day,
and Turkish Folk Dancing by
the TURANT Children's Folk
Dancers.
As a part of its 2009 Portrait of
Turkey program, the World Affairs Council has awarded six
Metroplex teachers,
Rebecca Ryan (Coppell ISD), Megan Webster
(Richardson,L.V. Berkner High School), Aditi Samarath (Richland
College),
Karen Haley (Dallas, Ursuline Academy), James
Newman (Irvin High School), Adrienne Townsend (Aledo High School, TX) ,
study tours of Turkey from teachers to
travel Turkey from July 13 – 24, 2009. This program is focused on
exploring of Turkey
through a series of events. Each event is designed to promote education and
cross-cultural understanding of Turkey that straddles
the European and Middle Eastern worlds.
